Some tips about graphic design

The first essential of graphic design that we read for class was the use of grid systems. By this I mean the different layouts that you see for everyday things like newspapers and magazines, but also obviously for websites and also things like phone applications and stuff like that. I worked closely with this when working for the yearbook staff in high school. We developed grid designs for every page in the yearbook.

Knowledge in the Head and in the World

Reading Response #10

In chapter 2 and 3 of “The Design of Everyday Things” and in these chapters Don Norman discusses the difference between knowledge in the world and in the head. Knowledge in the head is something that cannot be learned by visual cues. Norman gives the example of the penny, which I found very interesting. Although, in general, the American population has no idea what the actual appearance of a penny looks like, we still have the ability to use it the right way.
